‘A Masterly Wildness’ – so said Charles Burney in reference to Joseph Kelway’s playing.  This programme celebrates a genre which could perhaps be described as ‘Anglo-Scarlatti’. Daredevil hand-crossings, unpredictable figurations and plunges into exotic harmonies often vie with each other in robust rhythmic dances to create music that is both theatrical and virtuosic.
