The keys have ebony sharps and polished bone naturals with arcade fronts. The keyboard itself is softwood.
The wooden jacks have long brass height screws
The thin case is made of a dark and close-grained hardwood, possibly fruitwood or walnut. The thinness of the case and lack of a fixed lid might suggest it is inspired by an Italian instrument, intended to live in an outer case. However, it is strung in brass and iron, and the grain of the soundboard runs at an angle away from the spine, instead of vaguely parallel to it.
This instrument is located in the Lewes workshop of the late Malcolm Rose, who did the bulk of the restoration work.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Malcolm Rose Memorial concerts fund.
