2017 COURSES at BENSLOW MUSIC TRUST  Hitchen, Herts

Mon 20 – Wed 22 February 2017:
Tutor: Dr Penelope Cave  Standard; Upper Intermediate to Advanced
Dr Penelope Cave brings her wide experience of teaching and performing both piano and harpsichord to lead this course, offering pianists the opportunity to try out the harpsichord for, perhaps, the first time. In addition to learning about the instrument and its technique, students will benefit in leaving with a much wider understanding of historic style. It is also a useful opportunity to improve a baroque exam piece. Please bring along a prelude and a dance movement by Purcell and any 2-part invention by Bach, as well as some of your own choice from the period 1550-1750. Participants will have the opportunity to play our newly refurbished Goble harpsichord and there will also be a piano nearby for comparison. Resident: £280 Non-Resident: £205   Code17/217

Tutor: Dr Penelope Cave;  Standard; Upper Intermediate to Advanced
For this year’s harpsichord weekend, Dr Penelope Cave will focus on making the harpsichord sing, and offer an opportunity to play the clavichord as a tool for honing touch and listening skills. Works to be studied will include Bach’s ‘Little Preludes’, the Polonaises of W.F. Bach, choice of a piece by Couperin, and Lambert’s Clavichord by Herbert Howells twentieth-century miniatures which can also sound well on the harpsichord.   Resident: £280 Non-Resident: £205 Code: 17/240
